Frequently Asked Questions
Grit + Grace K9 Dog Training
General Questions
What makes Grit + Grace K9 different from other dog trainers?
Grit + Grace K9 specializes in behavior modification, not just obedience. We work with dogs struggling with reactivity, fear, aggression, anxiety, and impulse control — especially cases that feel overwhelming or “too far gone.” Our approach blends structure, calm leadership, and relationship-based training. We don’t rely on gimmicks, shortcuts, or cookie-cutter programs.
Our philosophy is simple: Let the dogs be dogs — safely, confidently, and calmly.
Do you work with aggressive or reactive dogs?
Yes. This is one of our primary specialties. We regularly work with dogs displaying leash reactivity, human-directed aggression, dog aggression, fear-based behaviors, and severe anxiety. Many of the dogs we work with have been turned away by other trainers or are at risk of surrender. Our goal is intake diversion — helping families keep their dogs safely in the home whenever possible.
Note: Not every dog is a candidate for every program. An evaluation is required before training begins.
Do you guarantee results?
No ethical dog trainer can guarantee outcomes. Dogs are living beings, not machines. What we do guarantee is professional assessment, honest expectations, and a structured plan designed to create meaningful, measurable improvement. Results depend heavily on owner follow-through, consistency, and environment.
Getting Started
Is an evaluation required before training?
Yes. Every dog must complete an evaluation before enrolling in training. This allows us to assess behavior, triggers, history, lifestyle, and goals. From there, we recommend the most appropriate training path — whether that’s private sessions, the Behavior Reset™ program, or group work.
How long is the evaluation?
Evaluations typically last 60–90 minutes and include hands-on observation, discussion, and a clear roadmap for next steps.
What areas do you serve?
Grit + Grace K9 is based in Allentown, Pennsylvania and serves the surrounding Lehigh Valley area. Virtual coaching options are available for clients outside our service range or those needing remote support.
Training Programs
What is the Behavior Reset™ program?
The Behavior Reset™ is a 30-day stability program designed for dogs with serious behavioral challenges. It focuses on creating structure, calmness, clarity, and trust — not just managing symptoms. This program is ideal for dogs dealing with aggression, reactivity, anxiety, or repeated training failures.
How much does the Behavior Reset™ cost?
The total investment for the Behavior Reset™ is $1,200.
Payment options include:
Pay in full at enrollment
Payment plan:
$600 to start
$300 at Day 15
$300 at completion
We created flexible payment options because behavior help should be accessible — not a last resort after surrender is already on the table.
Do you offer basic obedience training?
Yes — but always with purpose. Obedience at Grit + Grace K9 is taught as a tool for behavior stability, not a performance routine. We focus on real-world reliability, impulse control, and engagement — not just commands.
Do you offer group classes?
Yes. Group training is available to approved clients after evaluation. These sessions focus on socialization, neutrality, desensitization, and controlled exposure — not chaotic “play groups.” Safety and structure come first.
Methods & Philosophy
What training methods do you use?
We use a balanced, relationship-based approach tailored to each dog. This may include leash communication, spatial pressure, reinforcement, management strategies, and owner education. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all methods, extremes, or trends.
Our priority is always:
Safety
Clarity for the dog
Long-term stability
Owner empowerment
Do you use treats?
Yes — when appropriate. Food is a tool, not a crutch. We transition dogs away from dependency and toward engagement, structure, and reliability.
Do you use training collars?
Tools are selected case-by-case and only used with education and consent. Tools do not train dogs — people do. Our focus is teaching owners how to communicate clearly and responsibly.
Owners & Expectations
How involved do I need to be in the training?
Very involved. We train dogs and their humans. Long-term success depends on consistency, boundaries, and follow-through at home. If you’re looking to hand your dog off and do nothing, we are not the right fit — and we’re honest about that upfront.
How quickly will I see improvement?
Many clients notice changes within the first few sessions, especially in structure and calmness. Deeper behavioral change takes time, consistency, and repetition. We focus on progress that lasts — not quick fixes that fall apart.
What happens after training ends?
Clients who complete training gain access to continued support, group sessions, and our growing educational resources. Our goal is to build confident owners, not create lifelong dependency.
Safety & Ethics
Do you work with all dogs?
We work with many difficult cases, but not every dog is a fit for our programs. Safety is always our top priority — for the dog, the owner, and the community. If a case falls outside our scope, we will be honest and help guide you toward appropriate resources.
Are you insured and professional?
Yes. Grit + Grace K9 operates as a professional dog training business with clear policies, liability coverage, and ethical standards. This is not a hobby — it’s our mission.
